Experience kendo was an excellent event. The organisers were really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Lots of fun and I learnt quite a lot too.

I loved this experience. The history of samurai and kendo was fascinating and actually one part that made this session. The instruction was at a good pace and there is no holding back, you get the full experience of kendo. It's something I've wanted to do when I was a kid and I'm so glad I did this, especially being in the oldest dojo in the world. Just do it! What's not to like about channelling your inner samurai or Jedi?

This class was a great intro to kendo and its history. The teacher takes the time to explain the history of the samurai and how kendo was established.

When performing the martial arts, great detail is given at an easy pace that is fun for all. This class will make you want to start kendo.

Excellent experience! We really enjoyed ourselves. First part is a history lesson, the middle is a tutorial on striking and blocking, and the last part is an actual kendo match with a partner/student. Our class had a full range of ages and group sizes/family. The kids appeared to really enjoy it. Very well organized and the equipment was in good condition. I experienced this with my teenage daughter. If I bring a grandkid to Japan, in the near future, I will definitely plan to do it again.

This was without question one of the highlights of my visit to Japan. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly, the equipment was clean and in good repair, and the other participants were highly energized and a lot of fun!!! Highly recommended!

Had a great experience in the Kendo class with Sensei Tomoyoshi. He has a nice and calm demeanor while teaching Kendo, and you instantly take a liking to his personality. He makes the 2-hour session interesting, talking about the history of Kendo, Japan and a little bit about himself. He instructs you how to put on the Kendo armor (quite elaborate), basic attack and defence techniques, and has a match-up in the end. Obviously, one cannot learn full Kendo in a 2-hour session, which takes years to learn, and people start learning as early as age 8-10, but it's definitely a good start.

Tomo is an excellent teacher, we both really enjoyed the history lesson on bushido. The class was well aimed for all skill levels and very fun. The dojo is a truly amazing place to learn. Make sure you arrive 30 mins early to get dressed!

It was a pleasant experience, but either because the theory was too long, or the sensei needed to go somewhere after the lesson, but the practices were too short for me. Like it was being rushed...? But, overall I enjoyed it and they were all nice people there. Just too bad I wasn't able to experience much more like I had hoped for before joining in.

But then again, this is just MY opinion. Others might think otherwise. :)

Very good informative introduction, excellent 'experience' session and all good fun. Well taught and organised throughout for example clear joining information and intended session's format.

I enjoyed the "Experience Kendo in Kyoto" - a good taster session.

    Absolutely Fantastic!!!

Great history background to start to allow you to understand and really take on the Kendo/Bushidō principles. This was followed by an amazing lesson that was well paced and smoothly delivered!

The chance to take on a skilled opponent was a chance not to be missed!!

    Thank you

An amazing experience in Kyoto. The history and introduction to kendo were fantastic. My favourite thing I did in my 10 days in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.

It was a great experience. The teacher is a from a samurai family and you can fell it. I was with my 10 years old daughter and she loved the lesson. It is very serious and the course is practiced in a real dojo.

It's very worth it, I will come back without hesitation

    Great experience!

The kendo workshop exceeded all my expectations. Your instructor is a very charismatic gentleman and does a wonderful job of not only explaining to you the basic rules and techniques of Kendo martial arts, but you'll understand the connection of the sport to the Japanese society and a certain mind set. All of this is done at a wonderful venue, the oldest of its kind.

We had a wonderful afternoon, thank you very much to everybody involved.
