Studio 皓々 -kou kou-

茶の湯の道具には、「形（かた）」という、機能的で簡素な形式美があります。

例えば、「利休形」は、千利休が民具等をベースにしながら合理的に定めた寸法や重心に基づき制作された茶道具の総称で、現代も制作されている、日本のプロダクトデザインの原点ともいえる形です。

一方、同じ用途の道具であっても、なりや素材、色や意匠など、茶人の美意識を反映した要素を「好み」と言います。

「形」は、普遍性や合理性を目指して整えられるもの。
「好み」は、美意識や思想、時間感覚が重ねられるもの。
「形」と「好み」が交差することで、茶の湯という空間の”審美”は磨かれてきました。

紡縁茶会 vol.10 では、
Studio皓々のプロダクトデザインを担う
YANOBIさんを席主にお迎えし、
「形と好み」をテーマにした茶会をひらきます。

Studio皓々・YANOBIが創造する新しい「形」を目指した
オリジナル茶の湯プロダクトー茶敷凵（ちゃしきばこ）ーを囲んで、
茶の湯の時間に寄り添う「形」の理解を深めるとともに、
色や茶碗を選び、ご自身の「好み」を重ねていただきます。

一つの箱に、一つの取り合わせ。
その日、その場で生まれる一箱一会の時間。

完成された道具を鑑賞するのではなく、
「形」に「好み」を重ねることで、その人らしい茶の湯をひらく試み。

静かに、しかし自由に、
茶の湯の現在（いま）をともに創るひとときです。

工藝デザイナー・井出八州（YANOBI）

伝統工藝をベースとしたブランディング、全国の職工や作家と共同したプロダクト開発を行う工藝デザイナー。日本の素材と技術に対する幅広い知見と深いリスペクト、多様な分野でのデザイン経験により、多くの作り手・クライアントから信頼を寄せられ、活躍の場を広げています。
現場を訪ね、職人とともに試行錯誤を重ねるその姿勢は、完成されたプロダクトをつくるだけでなく、プロダクトから立ち上がる文化を見つめ続けています。
Studio皓々では、オリジナルプロダクトのうち、多くのデザインを手がけているほか、茶道経験を活かして「紡縁茶会」を含むプロジェクトの総合ディレクションも担当。「形」や「好み」を介して文化・地域（空間）・時間を探求するパートナーとしてともに冒険を続けています。

Bouen Tea Gathering vol.10

A Box, A Moment — Form and Preference

Tea utensils embody what is called kata —
a refined, functional simplicity shaped by reason and restraint.

For example, “Rikyū-gata” refers to tea utensils
whose proportions and balance were rationally determined by Sen no Rikyū,
often based on everyday objects.
Still produced today, these forms may be seen as one of the origins
of Japanese product design.

At the same time, even when utensils serve the same function,
their contour, material, color, and decorative intention
may reflect the aesthetic sensibility of a particular tea practitioner.
Such elements are referred to as “preference.”

Form is shaped toward universality and rationality.
Preference is layered with aesthetic vision, philosophy, and a sense of time.

Where form and preference intersect,
the aesthetic space of tea has been refined over centuries.

In Bouen Tea Gathering vol.10,
we welcome YANOBI,
design partner of Studio Koukou’s original products,
as our host.

Surrounding Studio Koukou’s original tea utensil
Chashiki-bako,
a contemporary interpretation of form,
participants will deepen their understanding of form
while selecting colors and tea bowls
to layer their own preferences.

One box. One arrangement.

Yashima Ide (YANOBI), Craft Designer

A craft designer engaged in branding rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship,
as well as collaborative product development with artisans across Japan.

With deep knowledge of Japanese materials and techniques,
and extensive design experience across diverse fields,
he is widely trusted by makers and clients alike.

By visiting workshops and working closely with craftspeople,
his practice extends beyond creating finished products
to continually exploring the culture that emerges through them.

At Studio Koukou, he designs many of the original products
and also serves as a comprehensive director of projects including the Bouen Tea Gatherings,
drawing upon his own experience in tea practice.

Together, we continue to explore culture, space, and time
through the lens of form and preference.

茶道は、茶室に固定された文化である以前に、
道具を包み、運び、ひらくことで、
人と人が出会う社交の場を立ち上げてきた、
とてもポータブルな文化でもありました。

茶の湯に必要なモノの旅を可能にしてきた技法の一つが、紙の折形や箱。
お菓子や茶、道具をただ包装するだけではなく、
人と人の間に礼を準備するための「礼法＝包む文化」としても発展しました。

紡縁茶会 vol.9 では、
Studio皓々のオリジナル茶箱の制作も担っていただいている
& PAPERSさんを席主にお迎えし、
茶道具のひとつ「茶筅」を納める
「茶筅箱（貼り箱）」をつくるワークショップと茶会を行います。

紙を選び、膠（にかわ）で貼り、かたちを整える。
一服を点てた後は、完成した茶筅箱をお持ち帰りいただきます。

貼り箱という身近な存在を通して、
茶道や紙の文化が育んできた「礼法」の感覚や、
和紙や膠（にかわ）、裁断や折りといった日本ならではの素材や技術に
そっと触れていただく時間です。

席主紹介｜&Papers（アンドペーパーズ）

「& PAPERS」は、貼り箱を中心に、
菓子箱やトムソン箱、留め箱、ショッピングバッグなど、
多様なプロダクトを提供・発信しています。
茶の湯や和菓子文化の盛んな京都において、
中身を守り、無事に届け、気持ちよくひらかれるための箱を支えてきた
紙器メーカー（マルシゲ紙器）の、現代の暮らしを彩るブランドです。

紙素材への深い知識と、現代の暮らしに寄り添う軽やかな感覚をあわせ持ち、
中に入るものの価値や佇まいを引き立てる、柔軟な提案を次々と行っています。

また、ものづくりに真摯でありながら、
新しい試みにも前向きに取り組む、風通しのよい社風も印象的。
今回は、製造を担う若手スタッフ3名に、席主として参加いただき、
茶筅箱制作をナビゲートしてもらいます。



Bouen Tea Gathering vol.9

Traveling Tea Chests & the Form of Paper

Before the tea ceremony became a culture rooted in the tea room,
it was a highly portable practice—
one that created social spaces wherever people met
by wrapping, carrying, and opening the necessary tools.

One of the techniques that made this journey possible
was origata folding and paper boxes.
They were not merely for packaging tea, sweets, or utensils,
but evolved as a form of etiquette—
a culture of wrapping that prepares respect
between one person and another.

In Bouen Tea Gathering vol.9,
we welcome &PAPERS,
the brand behind the production of Studio Koukou’s original tea chests,
as our guest host.

Together, we will hold a tea gathering and workshop
to create a chasen box (a traditional pasted paper box)
for storing one of the essential tea utensils: the bamboo whisk.

Participants will choose paper,
apply nikawa (traditional animal glue),
and carefully shape their own box by hand.
After preparing and enjoying a bowl of tea,
each guest will take home their finished chasen box.

Through the familiar form of a paper box,
this gathering offers a quiet encounter with
the sensibilities of etiquette cultivated through tea and paper culture,
as well as Japan’s traditional materials and techniques—
washi paper, nikawa, cutting, and folding—
that have long supported them.

&PAPERS is a contemporary brand developed by Marushige Shiki,
a Kyoto-based paper box manufacturer with deep roots in the city’s tea
and confectionery culture.

Drawing on extensive expertise in paper materials
and a refined sensitivity suited to modern life,
& PAPERS creates flexible, thoughtful designs that enhance
the presence and value of what they contain.

While remaining sincere in their craftsmanship,
the team is also known for their openness to new ideas
and a warm, collaborative spirit.
For this gathering, three young makers from the production team
will join as hosts, guiding participants through the making of chasen boxes
from the perspective of the workshop floor.

お茶は、「飲む」ためだけのものではなく、人と人のあいだに静かな時間をひらき、
言葉や沈黙を行き交わせる、文化的な「媒介」でもあります。

今回の紡縁茶会では、その「媒介としてのお茶」を、
人と人のあいだからさらにひらき、
都市と農、自然と人間をつなぐ存在として捉え直します。

席主としてお迎えするのは、茶の生産や茶園という「場」を通じて、
多様な人の関わりを編み直そうとしている「HANNANTHE（ハンナンテ）」。
古くからの茶農家ではなく、さまざまな背景をもつ人々が関わりながら、
茶園を未来へひらく試みを続けている生産グループです。

「あわい」とは、境界ではなく、行き来が生まれる場所。
海の近くにあるHANNANTHEの茶園は、
近海の牡蠣殻を土壌に活用するなど、さまざまな実験を行う「あわい」です。
今回の茶席では、HANNANTHEの茶園の茶と、「胡粉」へと姿を変えた牡蠣殻が、
海と茶園、素材と行為をつなぐひとつの象徴として「茶入」となり、
対話の中心に据えられます。

石臼で抹茶を挽き、自分の手で点て、味わう。
完成された答えを受け取るのではなく、
行為に参加することで立ち上がる感覚を、
卓を囲んで分かち合う。
完成形ではなく、いま進行中の実践をひらき、
その先にどんな風景を思い描けるのかを、ともに眺める時間です。

海と茶園のあわいで、挽き、点て、納める。
その所作のなかから生まれる問いに、
ぜひ立ち会っていただけたらと思います。

① 茶園の実験の紹介
ハンナンテが取り組んでいる、茶園づくりや参加型の関わり方について、プロセスを含めてご紹介、「場としての茶園」の現在地を共有。

② 石臼で挽く抹茶づくり
抹茶になる前の茶葉「碾茶（てんちゃ）」を石臼を回す体験。

③ ご自服体験
Studio皓々オリジナルプロダクトを用いた、お抹茶のご自服体験。（お茶とお菓子付き）

④ 茶園の未来についての対話
牡蠣殻胡粉による「茶入」を囲みながら、茶園をどのような「場」として育てていけるのか、参加者それぞれの視点で深める対話。

席主紹介｜HANNANTHE

HANNANTHE（ハンナンテ）は、特定の家系や専業農家による茶づくりではなく、多様な背景をもつ人々が関わりながら、茶園という「場」を運営している生産グループです。

農に関わってこなかった人、都市に暮らす人、研究・企画・実務に携わる人など、それぞれの立場を持ち寄りながら、茶園をコモンズとしてひらくことを試みています。

海のそばにある美しい茶園で、完成された農法や、確立されたモデルを掲げるのではなく、多様な人々や事象をオープンに巻き込みながら、関わりと継続を模索し続ける。
その姿勢自体が、ハンナンテの活動の核のように感じられます。

本茶会では、その「途上にある実践」を、紡縁茶会という場にひらきます。

紡縁茶会 vol.7　型と間 — 文様のことはじめ

茶道には、長い時間をかけて繰り返されてきた「型」があります。
その型は、決まりごととして人を縛るものではなく、
呼吸や間合い、季節や場の気配を受け止めるための器として、
静かな自由を内側に宿してきました。

更紗をはじめとする文様のある染織もまた、
同じ型を用いながら、
配置や余白によって表情を変えてきた手仕事です。
実は茶の湯と文様は、古くから交わっており、
古渡り更紗が、異国の気配をまとう名物裂として大切にされるなど、
互いの美意識を育む関係にあります。

紡縁茶会 vol.7「型と間 — 文様のことはじめ」では、
文様や染織に親しみながら制作を続ける
イラストレーター・ありさ丸さんをお迎えし、
和紙の懐紙入れにブロックプリントを施すワークショップと、
茶の湯の時間をひらきます。

茶席では、一部お点前を行い
茶道における「型」と「間」の感覚を、
短い所作を通してご紹介。
続くワークショップでは、版を使いながら
和紙にお好みの文様を配置し、
「型」と「余白」の自由な表現を愉しんでいただきます。

型をなぞり、
間に気づく。
文様と所作がひびき合う中、
同じ座にいるみなさんとの交流も進みそうな、
新春にぴったりの体験です。

クリエイター紹介｜ありさ丸（イラストレーター）

文様や染織に親しみながら、
イラストやデータ制作を通してテキスタイルに関わる表現者。
更紗をはじめとする和文化の文様に惹かれ、
その背景や構造、使われてきた時間に目を向けながら制作を続けている。

染めのグラフィック表現にとどまらず、
織の仕組みや工程にも興味を持ち、
制作の現場を支える立場で関わることも多い。
手で織る職人とは異なる距離感で、
文様や工程を「つなぐ」役割を、自然体で担っている。

アンティーク着物や古布などを
センスよく日常に取り入れ、
歴史や文化を楽しみながら今に引き寄せる実践者でもある。

今回の茶会では、ブロックプリントを通じて、
文様の「型」と、その間に生まれる余白の美しさの愉しみ方を、
参加者とともに軽やかに導く。

紡縁茶会 vol.6

「透彩の祝祭 — Glass Painting & Urushi Holiday Tea」

硝子に透ける色彩が、冬の祝祭をそっと照らします。
芹沢銈介の硝子絵と、丸嘉小坂漆器店の漆硝子。
新旧の手仕事が重なり合い、ひとつの光景を描きます。

芹沢銈介が残した硝子絵は、貝や人形などの遊び心あるモチーフを、
澄んだ色のレイヤーで軽やかに表した作品です。
一方、丸嘉小坂漆器店の漆硝子は、
ガラスの透明感と色漆の深みがひとつになった独自技法。
ガラス越しに覗く色・艶が、光の移ろいとともに浮かび上がります。

今回は、Studio皓々のアートコレクションから硝子絵を６点選び、
その色やモチーフに寄り添うように漆硝子の器を取り合わせ、
“取り合わせの美”をめぐる静かな祝祭空間をしつらえます。

茶会では、漆硝子を伸びやかな筆致で彩る塗師・小坂智恵さんが席主として参加します。
道具づくりの裏話や色の選び方、ガラスを扱う際の繊細な仕事など、
つくり手の言葉を聞きながら、
ガラスの椀「蕾」でいただく一服をお愉しみください。

茶の湯はもともと、光の揺らぎや素材の取り合わせを味わう文化。
古典と現代を自由に交ぜ、季節を趣向によって立ち上げてきました。
ガラスと漆、民藝と現代の工藝が出会う今回の会は、
その“遊び心”と“取り合わせ”の精神を、冬の祝祭として映し出す試みです。

色と光がめぐり合う、あたたかで華やかな季節の茶会。

硝子絵と漆硝子の“取り合わせ”展示
　芹沢銈介の硝子絵数点と、丸嘉小坂漆器店による漆硝子の器を、
　響き合うようにしつらえ、冬の祝祭をテーマにした展示をご覧いただきます。

漆硝子の椀「蕾」を用いた季節の一服
　色漆がやわらかく透けるガラスの茶碗で、
　冬の光を映すような一服を。
　道具の背景やガラス越しに観る色彩のお話を交えながら、
茶の湯の自由な愉しみ方をご紹介します。

つくり手との対話と、季節の甘い趣向
　塗師・小坂智恵さんによる制作の裏側や素材の選び方、
　漆とガラスに向き合う日々のお話を伺いながら、
　クリスマスをイメージした小さな菓子とともにお過ごしいただきます。



クリエイター紹介｜小坂 智恵（丸嘉小坂漆器店・塗師）

木曽平沢に工房を構える 丸嘉小坂漆器店 にて、
ガラスに漆を施す独自技法を担う塗師。
透明な素材に、筆の呼吸をそのまま残すような伸びやかな線を重ね、
ガラスの奥行きと漆の色が響き合う表現を追求している。

「漆硝子」における主要な彩色を一手に担い、
色漆の配合から線の太さ、光の入り方に至るまで、
細やかな感性を活かした制作を続けている。
器が手に収まった時に立ち上がる“景色”を大切にし、
使い手の暮らしに寄り添う器づくりを心がけている。

今回の茶会では、
漆硝子を彩る筆致の秘密や、ガラスを扱う際の繊細な工程、
色を選ぶときに立ち上がる感覚など、
ものづくりの背景を直接語っていただく特別な機会となる。



Glass Painting & Urushi Holiday Tea

Translucent colors shimmering through glass gently illuminate the winter festival.
Glass paintings by Keisuke Serizawa and lacquered glass works by Maruyoshi Kosaka —
a meeting of old and new craftsmanship that unfolds into a single luminous scene.

Serizawa’s glass paintings depict playful motifs such as shells and small figurines,
expressed through clear, layered colors that seem to float upon the surface.
In contrast, Maruyoshi Kosaka’s lacquered glass is a unique technique born in Kiso:
the transparency of glass and the depth of colored urushi become one,
revealing tones and luster that shift subtly with the light.

For this occasion, six glass paintings from the Studio kou kou collection are selected,
paired with lacquered glass vessels in harmony with their colors and motifs.
Together, they form a quiet festive space exploring the “beauty of pairing.”

At the tea gathering, lacquer artist Chie Kosaka,
known for her flowing, expressive brushwork on glass,
joins as the host.
As you listen to her speak about the stories behind the tools,
the sensitivity required in handling glass,
and how she chooses each color,
you are invited to enjoy a bowl of tea served in the lacquered glass bowl Tsubomi.

Tea culture has long been a practice of savoring delicate shifts of light
and appreciating the interplay of materials.
It freely weaves classical and contemporary sensibilities,
shaping each season through its inventive shukō—its thematic intention.

This gathering, where glass and urushi, mingei and contemporary craft meet,
seeks to reflect that spirit of playfulness and thoughtful pairing
as a winter celebration in the Studio kou kou tea room.

Creator Profile｜Chie Kosaka (Lacquer Artist, Maruyoshi Kosaka)

Based in Kiso-Hirasawa at Maruyoshi Kosaka Shikki-ten,
Chie Kosaka is responsible for the studio’s distinctive lacquer-on-glass technique.
She layers supple, breath-like strokes of color onto transparent glass,
exploring expressions where the depth of urushi and the clarity of glass resonate together.

As the primary painter of the studio’s lacquered glass works,
she oversees everything from color formulation to the thickness of each stroke,
mindfully adjusting how light will enter and settle within the piece.

Her work honors the “landscape” that appears when a vessel rests in one’s hands,
crafting pieces that accompany and gently enrich everyday living.

In this tea gathering,
she will share insights into her brushwork,
the delicate processes involved in working with glass,
and the sensibilities that arise when choosing color—
offering a rare opportunity to hear directly from the maker herself.

今回の茶会は、染料や繊維といった素材を[「種」から育て、布を織り上げる]テキスタイルブランド tane textile の山添千種さんを席主に迎えます。

tane textile は、植物の命を起点に素材を生かし、やがて土へと還していく——
そんな循環の思想をものづくりの根に持つブランドです。
この「自然と人とのめぐり」を見つめる姿勢は、茶の湯の根底にある
“ものを生かしきる美” と静かに呼応しています。

「種の円環」は、茶と布、自然と人のあいだに宿る“循環の感性”をテーマに、
tane textile と Studio 皓々が共にひらく展示と茶会です。
種から芽吹き、布となり、茶を包み、再び自然へ還る。
そのめぐりの中に、私たちの暮らしの未来を見つめます。

展示では、tane textile が手がける布づくりのプロセスを、素材・染・織・道具のストーリーとして紹介します。
植物の種や茶葉を用いた染め、自然と共にあるデザイン。
秋冬の衣料やテキスタイル作品を中心に展示し、一部は受注も承ります。

茶会では、tane textile による仕覆を用いた道具の取り合わせで、自然を感じる一服を。
“布”に宿る素材の記憶に想いを馳せながら、”種”にちなんだお茶やお菓子、会話を楽しむ自由な茶会です。

「布の循環」を見る展示
tane textile の素材・染・織・道具のストーリーを紹介。

アーティスト紹介

山添千種（やまぞえ・ちぐさ）

tane textile 主宰／テキスタイルデザイナー

NHKディレクターを経て、織物産地である与謝野町に移住後2022年に独立、テキスタイルブランド tane textile（タネ・テキスタイル） を主宰。
NHK在職中、美術や歴史、伝統芸能の番組制作に携わり、
日本の手仕事や表現に息づく“時間の層”を見つめてこられた背景も活かしつつ、
手機とジャカード織機を組み合わせた独自の織機での制作を中心に、
作品を制作されています。

藍や紅花、ヤシャブシなど、自ら育てたり、山で採取した植物を染料とし、
糸を染め、手で織り上げる作品。
その一連の営みは、自然と人のあいだにある循環を、
“身にまとう風景”として表現する試みでもあります。

自然の揺らぎやノイズをそのまま受けとめ、
布へと変換していく山添さんの仕事には、
種から布へ、そしてまた次の季節へと続く“生命の円環”が静かに映し出されています。

“Circle of Seeds — From Seeds to Cloth, from Cloth to Tea —”

For this gathering, we welcome Chigusa Yamazoe, founder of the textile brand tane textile,
who cultivates dye plants and fibers from seed and weaves them into cloth.

tane textile roots its practice in the life of plants—bringing out the vitality of natural materials,
and ultimately returning them to the soil.
This vision of living in harmony with the natural cycle quietly resonates
with the tea philosophy of “cherishing and sustaining what already exists.”

“Circle of Seeds” is a tea gathering and exhibition jointly presented by tane textile and Studio KOU KOU,
exploring the sensibility of circulation between tea and fabric, nature and humankind.
From a single seed, fiber grows into cloth, the cloth wraps tea,
and through tea, it returns once again to nature.
Within this quiet cycle, we may catch a glimpse of how our way of life can endure.

The exhibition reveals tane textile’s process of creation—stories of material, dye, weave, and tools.
Featuring plant-dyed textiles made from seeds and tea leaves,
it presents garments and fabrics for the autumn and winter season, some available for custom order.
In the Studio’s space, the cloths move gently with light and air,
illuminating the harmony between the vitality of materials and the aesthetics of the tea ceremony.

During the tea gathering, a special tea service will feature tea utensils
wrapped in tane textile’s handwoven fabric.
Guests are invited to enjoy tea, sweets, and conversation inspired by the theme of “seeds,”
while reflecting on the memory held within each piece of cloth.

Nature and humanity, fabric and tea, past and future—
woven together in tane textile’s world of circular creation.

Artist Profile

Chigusa Yamazoe
Textile designer / Founder of tane textile

After working as a director at NHK, Yamazoe relocated to Yosano,
a traditional weaving region in northern Kyoto Prefecture,
and founded tane textile in 2022.

Drawing on her background in producing programs on art, history, and traditional performing arts,
she now creates handwoven textiles using both handlooms and jacquard looms.
Her work begins with plants—indigo, safflower, alder cones—
grown or foraged locally, then transformed through dyeing and weaving.

Each piece embodies a meditation on the cycle between people and nature,
expressed as “landscapes one can wear.”
In embracing the irregularities and resonance of natural materials,
Yamazoe’s textiles quietly evoke a circle of life—
from seed to cloth, and onward into the next season.

紡縁茶会vol.4 「碧山日和　つれづれ民藝茶話会」

日常の暮らしとともにある茶の湯をテーマに、「民藝」のまなざしを重ねるひととき。
現代の生活で、茶の湯を身近に取り入れるのはハードルが高いと感じておられる方も多いのではないでしょうか。
日常にある器や道具の中に美を見出す「民藝」の思想は、茶の湯を私たちの暮らしに開いてくれる一つのヒントです。

今回の紡縁茶会では、碧山窯の陶芸家・森公男さんを席主に迎えます。森さんの作品はもちろんのこと、各時代の民藝運動を支えた作り手の器を愉しみつつ、日常に寄り添う茶の湯を語り合う茶話会です。

森さんは、京都の民藝運動を支えた上田恒次氏に師事し、思想を受け継ぎながら、今の時代に響く造形の器を作り続けています。白磁や練り上げの凛とした作品は、日常に使いやすく丈夫でありながら、美意識を宿した佇まいを持っています。

茶話会を亭主としてともに進めるのは、Studio皓々の主宰者であり森さんの茶道の妹弟子でもある秋道花織。祖父母が民藝運動に関わった蒐集家であったことから、日常の中で茶と民藝が交わる風景を見て育ちました。

新旧の民藝作家の作品や記憶を手がかりに、作り手と受け手の両側から「民藝の今とむかし」を語り合いながら、暮らしの中で愉しむ茶の湯を探る気楽な茶話会です。

体験内容

·       新旧民藝作家の器を実際に使う「用の美」体験
　森さんの作品に加え、河井寛次郎・濱田庄司・黒田辰秋ら民藝運動を支えた作家の器を使用。鑑賞だけではなく、実際に手に取り使うことで「用の美」を体感します。

·       自服の一服体験
　参加者自身が抹茶を点てる「ご自服」のひとときを体験。季節のお菓子とともに、気軽にお茶を楽しんでいただけます。

·       席主・森さんの器のショッピング体験
　茶会後には森さんの作品を手に取っていただき、ご購入いただける機会もご用意しています。日常に寄り添う器を暮らしに迎えることができます。



席主プロフィール

森 公男（もり きみお）
1952年神奈川県横浜市生まれの陶芸家。国画会・京都民藝協会会員。
滋賀県の琵琶湖・山々に囲まれた風光明媚な場所で「碧山窯」を開いています。民藝運動を支えた作家・上田恒次氏に師事し、以後、民藝思想を背景に日常の暮らしに寄り添う器を制作。白磁や練り上げ、粉引を中心に、丈夫で使いやすく、モダンさも伴った凛とした佇まいの作品を生み出しています。



Bouen Chakai (Tea Gathering in Studio Koukou) vol.4

“Biyori at Hekizan – A Mingei Tea Talk”

This gathering explores the theme of chanoyu (the way of tea) as part of everyday life, through the lens of mingei (folk craft).
For many, tea practice can feel difficult to bring into daily routines. Yet the mingei spirit—finding beauty in the ordinary tools and vessels around us—offers a way to open tea to our daily lives.

For this edition of Bouen Chakai-Tea Gathering, we welcome ceramic artist Kimio Mori of Hekizan Kiln as our host. Alongside Mori’s own works, participants will enjoy using vessels by makers who supported the mingei movement in different eras. Through these, we will share a relaxed tea talk exploring how tea and mingei intertwine with everyday living.

Mori studied under Tsuneji Ueda, a key figure in the Kyoto mingei movement, inheriting his philosophy while creating vessels that resonate with the present day. His porcelain and neriage works are modern yet dignified, durable yet imbued with quiet beauty—made for daily use.

Co-hosting the tea talk is Kaori Akimichi, founder of Studio kou kou and Mori’s fellow disciple in tea practice. Growing up in a family of collectors deeply engaged in the mingei movement, she experienced firsthand the meeting of tea and mingei in daily life.

Through the works and memories of both past and present mingei artists, this tea talk explores “mingei, then and now,” from both the maker’s and the user’s perspectives, while savoring tea as part of everyday living.

Hands-on Experience of “Beauty in Use” (yō no bi)
Use vessels not only by Mori, but also by Kanjiro Kawai, Tatsuaki Kuroda, and Shoji Hamada—makers who supported the mingei movement. Beyond viewing, participants will directly handle and use these pieces, experiencing their beauty in function.

Self-Preparation of Tea (gojifuku)
Each guest will prepare a bowl of matcha themselves, accompanied by seasonal sweets—an approachable way to enjoy tea.

Shopping Opportunity
After the gathering, participants may view and purchase Mori’s works—bringing vessels made for daily living into their own homes.

Host Profile

Kimio Mori (b. 1952, Yokohama) Ceramic artist, member of the Kokugakai Association and Kyoto Mingei Association. Based at Hekizan Kiln in Shiga Prefecture, surrounded by Lake Biwa and mountains. A disciple of Tsuneji Ueda, who supported the mingei movement, Mori continues to create vessels rooted in its philosophy while responding to the present moment. His works—mainly porcelain, neriage, and kohiki—are known for their durability, usability, and quietly modern dignity, embodying a refined beauty suited for daily life.

茶の湯の根底にあるのは、引き算の美意識です。

過剰を削ぎ落とし、余白に意味を託すこと。簡素の中に無限の広がりを感じ取ること。 

石と砂と苔だけで山水を映す枯山水もまた、その思想を映した装置といえるでしょう。

そこにあるのは現実の風景ではなく、人の心の中にある「憧れの景色」。 訪れる者は、それぞれの心象を重ね合わせ、理想や遠景を想い描きます。

今回の茶会・インスタレーションでは、画家 Dustin London氏を迎えます。彼のドローイングは、ミニマムな線と余白から、静けさの中にたゆたう庭を呼び起こします。

そこに水琴窟の滴りのように響くのは、新潟・燕の響楽舎による楽器・ハンドパン。 伝統的な鎚起銅器の技を応用し、鍛え上げられた銅の楽器は、澄んだ余韻を放ち、 静寂のなかに見えない風景を浮かび上がらせます。

Dustin氏と響楽舎の作品を枯山水の庭に見立て、現代の「庭と茶室」をStudio皓々に立ち上げる試みです。

絵画と音、庭と水、静と動。
異なる表現が交錯するとき、ひとりひとりの心の奥に眠る「憧景」がふと姿を現すかもしれません。
それは、ただ一人の内にとどまるものではなく、茶の湯の場を通して、 他者とそっと分かち合うことのできる風景です。
「憧れ」を媒介にしたこの茶会は、静かで優しい共鳴の時間を紡ぎ出します。

1. 枯山水と水琴窟に見立てたインスタレーション

Dustin London のドローイングを「庭」とし、響楽舎のハンドパンを「水琴窟」と見立てる。絵と音が重なり合い、現代の茶室に心象風景が立ち上がります。

2. ハンドパンとの出会い

展示期間中には、響楽舎によるハンドパン演奏や、実際に触れて音を体感できる機会も。工藝と音楽が一つになる瞬間に立ち会えます。

3. 茶を点てるひととき

茶会では、客自らがカジュアルに一服を点てる体験を。絵と音に包まれながら、茶の湯の「憧景」を共有するひとときを楽しんでいただけます。



アーティスト紹介

Dustin London
Dustin London は、絵画空間の揺らぎや柔軟性への探求を軸に、余白と線の即興的な応答から独自のドローイングを生み出すアーティストです。京都の枯山水庭園で得た体験を背景に、和紙の質感と「見え隠れ（miegakure）」の思想を取り込み、形と空無が入れ替わるような空間性を描き出します。その作品は、観る者に「見えないものを想像する余地」を開き、静寂の中に潜む豊かな風景を呼び起こします。アメリカを拠点に活動し、国内外での展示やレジデンスを重ね、現在はイースタン・ミシガン大学で教鞭を執っています。

響楽舎
響楽舎（時田清正）は、新潟・燕を拠点に活動する 工藝家であり、音楽家 でもあります。伝統工藝技術・鎚起銅器の鍛金技法を応用し、世界でも制作者が限られる手製ハンドパンを制作しています。
燕の金属技術を背景に、ステンレスや銅板を何十もの工程で叩き成形し、音の特性に合わせて精緻な調律を施す彼のハンドパンは、ただの楽器ではなく、響きを通じて場と人をつなぐ媒介です。
楽器製作だけでなく、彼自身が演奏者として、そして場づくりを志す者として、響きあうシーンでの音楽を提案します。人と音と空間が交錯する構造を、鎚起の技と即興の響きで紡ぎ出す存在です。



Garden of Longing — Tea Gathering

At the heart of the tea ceremony lies an aesthetics of subtraction:
to pare away the excessive, entrust meaning to emptiness, and sense infinity within simplicity.

The dry landscape garden (karesansui) also embodies this philosophy. With only stones, sand, and moss, it reflects not the actual scenery, but the imagined landscapes of longing held within the heart. Each visitor overlays their own inner vision, recalling distant ideals and far-off scenes.

For this tea gathering and installation, we welcome painter Dustin London. From minimal lines and open space, his drawings evoke gardens suspended in stillness.
Resonating like the droplets of a suikinkutsu, the handpan of Kyogakusha, a craftsman and musician based in Tsubame, Niigata, fills the space. Forged through the traditional technique of hammered copperware (tsuiki-doki), the instrument releases a clear resonance that conjures unseen landscapes within silence.

Together, London’s drawings and Kyogakusha’s handpan transform Studio Kōkō into a contemporary “garden and tea room.”

Image and sound. Garden and water. Stillness and motion.
As these expressions intersect, the “scenery of longing” sleeping within each heart may suddenly emerge.

It is not confined to an individual alone; through the vessel of tea, such inner landscapes may be quietly shared with others.
This tea gathering, mediated by “longing,” seeks to weave a time of quiet and tender resonance.

Installation as Garden and Water Harp
Dustin London’s drawings as the “garden,” and Kyogakusha’s handpan as the “suikinkutsu.” Image and sound overlap to awaken imagined landscapes in a contemporary tea room.

Encounter with the Handpan
During the exhibition, visitors can experience performances by Kyogakusha and even try the handpan themselves—witnessing the moment where craft and music converge.

Making a Bowl of Tea
At the tea gathering, guests casually prepare a bowl of tea on their own. Surrounded by image and sound, they share the “longing scenery” of tea with others.

Artist Profiles

Dustin London
Dustin London is an artist whose drawings emerge from an exploration of the fluidity and instability of pictorial space. Inspired by Kyoto’s dry gardens, he incorporates the texture of washi paper and the principle of miegakure (“hide and reveal”), creating spaces where form and emptiness continually exchange roles. His works open a realm of suggestion, awakening unseen landscapes within stillness. Based in the U.S., he has exhibited internationally and currently teaches at Eastern Michigan University.

Kyogakusha (Kiyomasa Tokita)
Kyogakusha, based in Tsubame, Niigata, is both a craftsman and musician. Applying the traditional hammered copperware (tsuiki-doki) technique, he handcrafts handpans—a rare and demanding process undertaken by only a few makers worldwide. Each instrument, forged and finely tuned through countless hammer strikes, becomes more than a musical tool: it is a medium that connects people and spaces through resonance. As both maker and performer, Kyogakusha proposes music for moments of shared harmony, weaving structures where people, sound, and place converge.
