Taking advantage of Kyoto's central cultural location, official Sensei will teach you authentic Japanese martial arts in a fun way. At this stage, KYOTO SAMURAI DISCOVERY offers two plans: A Kendo Plan and a Batto Plan.

Kendo is an ancient Japanese martial art that uses protective gear and bamboo swords which is still popular among people of all ages. In this program, you will practice how to use the bamboo sword, compete in matches, and practice etiquette, the essence of Japanese martial arts.

Batto is a series of actions in which the sword is drawn, the object is cut, and finally, the sword is sheathed. In this plan, you will cut a rolled straw mat using a real katana. You can truly experience the sharpness of katana and, at the same time, you will learn the etiquette required when using katana. Our Batto plan is not just a test-cutting attraction; your teacher is the headmaster of the mainstream Batto sect known as Toyama-ryu. Our plan is the best way to experience real test cutting.
