Ma Place means “My place” in French. I believe that learning another language is like having another place where you belong. My Japanese lessons will be a “place” where you can sigh with relief and be filled with energy. 
Welcome to “Ma Place”. I will be glad if you can add it as one of your places.

Teacher profile／
20 years experience doing secretarial and office work in private enterprises such as manufacturers and trading companies, and also at educational institutions such as universities. This allows me to support you with, not only your everyday Japanese, but also either Japanese for work and "Academic Japanese". Bachelor of Arts in Japanese literature at Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto.

Lesson time／
The lesson time below is negotiable. Don't hesitate to contact me.
Weekdays after 6PM and Saturdays lesson time slots are basically available for online lessons only but conditions are negociable. For morning persons or those who live out of Japan, I can also give online lessons from 4:30 to 6:30AM (JST).

前回触れたように日本語では返答する時、特に否定したり断ったりする時に言葉を濁す傾向があります。

As I mentioned last time, in Japanese, we tend to give vague answers, especially when refusing or denying.

Comme je l'ai mentionné la dernière fois, en japonais, on a tendance à répondre vaguement, surtout lorsque l'on refuse ou que l'on nie.

口調や場面にもよりますが、「いいえ」や「違います」と言われると、内容ではなく、自分のことを否定されたと感じる人もいるかもしれません。

Depending on the tone and context, saying "no" or "that's not right" can be perceived as a personal rejection rather than a simple disagreement with what this person said.

Selon le ton et le contexte, dire un « non » ou un « ce n'est pas ça » peut être perçu comme un rejet personnel plutôt qu'une simple contradiction sur ce que cette personne a dit.

その代わりに「それは、ちょっと…」や「～なんですが…」のように文を最後まで言い切らない表現をよく使います。

Instead, we often use expressions of hesitation like "sore wa chotto..." or "～ndesuga...", without finishing a sentence.

À la place, on utilise souvent des expressions d'hésitation comme "sorewa chotto..." ou "～ndesuga..." sans terminer sa phrase.

それを聞くと、大抵の日本語学習者は不可解な表情を浮かべます。

Most Japanese language learners look confused when they hear that.

La plupart des apprenants de japonais ont l'air perplexe quand ils entendent cela.

しかし、実際に使ってみると、あら不思議、やり取りがずっと円滑に進むのです。

But surprisingly, when you put these expressions into practice, the conversation goes much more smoothly.

Mais, étonnamment, quand on met ces expressions en pratique, la conversation devient beaucoup plus fluide.

完全に順応する必要はありませんが、特に現地で外国語を学ぶ時、少し歩み寄ってみるのも大切かと思います。

It is not necessary to adapt completely, but I think it's important to make a small effort to get closer to others, especially when learning a foreign language in the country.

Il n'est pas nécessaire de s'adapter complètement, mais je pense qu'il est important de faire un petit effort pour se rapprocher des autres, surtout lorsqu'on apprend une langue étrangère sur place.

日本語に関して言うと、先ほど挙げた表現は相手への配慮を示すものと解釈できますが、私自身は無用な軋轢を避けるためにも使っています。

As for Japanese, the expressions I mentioned above can be interpreted as a way to show consideration for others, but personally, I also use them to avoid unnecessary frictions.

En ce qui concerne le japonais, les expressions que j'ai mentionnées plus haut peuvent être interprétées comme une manière de montrer sa considération envers les autres, mais personnellement, je les utilise aussi pour éviter les frictions inutiles.

自分が相手に穏やかに接すれば、相手、さらには社会も穏やかになり、その結果、自分も心穏やかに過ごせるという、ごく単純な論理です。

It's a very simple logic: by treating others gently, we create a more peaceful environment in our personal interactions and even within society as a whole. As a result, it contributes to one's peace of mind.

C'est une logique très simple : en traitant les autres avec douceur, on crée un climat apaisé, dans nos interactions personnelles, même au sein de la société. Par conséquent, cela favorise aussi sa propre paix de l'esprit.

ことわざ「情けは人のためならず」を拡大解釈したようなものです。

It's like an expanded interpretation of the proverb,"Nasake wa hito no tame narazu", which means "Kindness is not only for others, but also for oneself, as it will eventually come back to you."

C'est comme une interprétation élargie du proverbe japonais « Nasake wa hito no tame narazu » qui signifie « la bienveillance n'est pas seulement pour les autres, mais aussi pour soi-même, car à la fin elle reviendra à vous. »

ところで、前回書いたことの他にホストファミリーから学んだことと言えば、相手を褒めることです。

By the way, in addition to what I wrote last time, another thing I learned from my host family is the importance of praising others.

Par ailleurs, en plus de ce que j'ai écrit la dernière fois, une autre chose que j'ai apprise de ma famille d'accueil est l'importance de féliciter les autres.

特に2つの誉め言葉は20年たった今でも鮮明に覚えています。

In particular, I still remember very clearly two compliments I received, even twenty years later.

Particulièrement, je me souviens encore très clairement de deux compliments qu'on m'a faits, même vingt ans après.

ホストファザーがことあるごとに言ってくれた "Good thinking, Shizuko!"、それに、テディベア作家の指導のもと作った縫いぐるみを見せた時にホストマザーが言ってくれた "He is gorgeous!"です。

My host father used to praise me on any occasion by saying "Good thinking, Shizuko!", and my host mother said "He is gorgeous!" about the stuffed bear I had just made with the help of a teddy bear creator.

Mon père d'accueil me felicitait à la moindre occasion en disant "Good thinking, Shizuko !" et ma mère d'accueil  m'a dit « He is gorgeous! » à propos de l'ours en peluche que je venais de fabriquer avec l'aide d'une créatrice d'ours en peluche.

日本語は英語に比べて、日常会話で使える誉め言葉が少ないように思いますし、特に目上の人を褒めるのは失礼に当たるという考えがあります。

In Japanese, it seems to me that there are fewer expressions of compliments that are used in everyday conversation compared to English, and in Japanese culture, it's considered impolite to praise one's superiors or elders.

En japonais, il me semble qu'il y a moins d'expressions de compliments qu'on peut utiliser dans la conversation quotidienne par rapport à l'anglais, et dans la culture japonaise, il est considéré comme impoli de féliciter ses supérieurs ou ses aînés.

そういう文化で育ったとはいえ、「レッスンで褒め上手、励まし上手になる」を来年の目標に加えることにします。

Although I grew up in such a culture, I will add to my list of resolutions for next year: "To become better at praising and encouraging my students."

Bien que j'aie grandi dans une telle culture, j'ajouterai à ma liste de résolutions pour l'année prochaine : « devenir meilleur pour féliciter et encourager mes étudiants ».
