Masuya Takao is a company established in 1930 with a factory in Nishijin, Kyoto.

With the motto of "beauty to endure for a time," we strive to create textiles while valuing the techniques that have been handed down and the aesthetic sense that should be conveyed.

Our main feature is "manufacturing from thread."

The origin of Nenkin Fukusa comes from a request to restore the beautiful shining gold Nenkin Fukusa from the Tokugawa Art Museum, which houses treasures handed down to the Owari Tokugawa family.

The thread produced during this restoration was named 'Nenkin-Shi' and developed into obi production.

This obi woven with "Nenkin-Shi " has become our company's representative work.

"Nenkin-shi " is a gold thread made by winding foil around cotton thread of varying thickness. The material has both the part where the foil shines and the part where the color of cotton peeks through the gap between the foil.

In recent years, we have been focusing on the reuse of leftover yarn and leftover fabric with SDGs in mind, as we want more people to experience the beauty of "Nenkin-shi" itself.

As part of this, weaving experience using "Nenkin-shi" is also held.

Please enjoy the exquisite color and texture of the thread that cannot be conveyed in photos.
